Barbara A. Paterson
Barbara A. Paterson was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. She holds a Diploma in Fine Arts and a BFA with a major in sculpture from the University of Alberta. She currently specializes in a variety of sculpture media, including wax, stone, bronze, and welded steel. Her outdoor life-size bronzes can be viewed at St. Albert City Hall, in the Ghosts Project in downtown Red Deer, as well as in an Edmonton elementary school. In 1997, following a selection process by the Famous Five Foundation, Barbara Paterson was selected to create the F5F Monuments, which will be unveiled in Olympic Park Calgary in 1999, as well as on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, 2000. Paterson's sculpture depicts the five Western Canadian women in an imaginary moment in 1929 when they received the news that the Privy Council had ruled the word "persons" in the BNA Act included women.
Barbara is married to John; they have three sons and currently five grandchildren.
