Eamonn Rosato

Like the poems and songs of the ancient bards of his Irish homeland, Eamonn Rosato's carvings seem to reach out across the mists of time. Working mainly with distressed wood, reclaimed copper and other found materials, he creates a world of mythic figures ... Celtic gods, warriors and spirits... that tell the stories of the triumphs and tragedies of the Irish people.
I sculpt with pieces of old tree limbs, mostly. I'll use hand-made nails from demolished buildings and anything that is recyclable. I've even used copper from the old courthouse roof in St. John's.
Above all other things, Rosato is a storyteller. A recent exhibition, Images of the Black'47
These days, he lives and works in a 140 year old house by the side of the Waterford River in St. John's, Newfoundland. It is the perfect setting for the creation of sculpture that as been shown in both group and solo exhibitions at galleries in Newfoundland and Ontario.
