Paula A. Braswell
Born in Decatur, Alabama in 1955, Paula grew up in a farming community surrounded by woods and ponds. The world of the forest imbued Paula with the feeling of being part of a larger whole, a feeling she carried with her to art school.
Paula has a BA and MFA, taught for ten years in New Orleans and Key Largo, and has exhibited extensively in the USA. She received a grant from The National Endowment for the Arts for her installation Still Life, a multi-media installation about the sea. Other multi-media installations include Guardians, Creek, La Danza, River, and Fields.
In 1996, Paula and her husband relocated to Toronto. In the last few years she has focused primarily on confining herself to the studio to develop new large installations, concentrating on understanding new materials and their potential for metaphorical expression.
