Shelly Rahme
Artist Statement
The central focus of my work is reflected in the materials I use. My materials are salvaged industrial remnants found on construction sites, in vacant lots, and in dumpsters. I collect discarded material from the land and reflexively make sculpture about landscape. I take back a little of the gargantuan footprint humans leave on the earth and create a dialogue about our current industrial relationship with nature. Since our relationship is so ruinous, my work is often catastrophic and foreboding, or sublime.
