Graduating from the University of Guelph in 1993 with an Honours Fine Art Degree I have worked actively in drawing, painting and sculpture. My works have been included in many group and solo exhibitions in Ontario, Canada: Neilson Park Creative Centre, Elora City Hall, Toronto Outdoor Show, Glynhurst Gallery, Kitchener, and Guelph. My works are included in public collections: Wellington County Museum, Georgetown Civic Centre, and Burlington Cultural Centre; and private collections in Canada, USA and Europe. Farrell was elected into the SSC in 2001. Her studio is based in Guelph.
For many years my sculpture has explored the human condition using the medium of clay. While exploring the figure, emphasis was on the depiction of gesture, mood and narrative. Currently, as an obsessive collector of roadside debris, family cast offs and garage sale finds, I find that the ‘found materials’ served as a catalyst furthering my imagination resulting in the creation of new sculptural objects. The results often show a visual narrative providing the viewer with a fresh look at reusing materials in a way that elicits personal memories.
